A BRIEF ANSWER TO THE QUESTION:
SHOULD PEOPLE STILL OBEY THE OLD SCRIPTURAL LAWS?
The old laws that God gave to the Jewish nation, as written up in the Old Testament, were mainly to show up sin, and were as a tutor leading to The Christ.(1) They are laws that are still beneficial for all humanity, particularly as to their physical welfare, and in the main these were the reasons for the old laws. Further in time, this "shadow" of the reality was done away with.
More important is the fact that each human creation of God has a spirit. We are told that we cannot please God well by our works of the flesh, but only by means of our spiritual "sacrifices".(2) Such sacrifices contribute to our being subjected to God through the Law of the Spirit, according to our active faith in the Way of Holiness that The Christ established as a living example for us to live by, established while he lived on earth.
This Way of Holiness is a righteous way, and is not carried on by Christians under a "yoke" of the fear of punishment for disobedience under the old Law consisting of fleshly decrees, but by the "doing of good and the sharing of things with others, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased."(3) I have referred to these "sacrifices" elsewhere in the "Little Scroll".
Furthermore, and about the end of our faith, the Word tells us that flesh cannot inherit immortal life. This means that obedience only to the Mosaic laws,(4) which were only as a fleshly mental corrector, were given to lead mankind by means of this behavioural "tutor" toward the disposition of The Christ. Then, by putting on The Christ through our spirit sacrifices, whether as a Jew or a Gentile, we can then inherit everlasting life, for then we will be able to put on immortality and live in the promised paradise of God.(5)
The 'Ten Words' (ten commandments referred to in Exodus 20:4-17) from God, given to the Jews through the mediator Moses on Mount Sinai, are not applicable to those under the requirements of faith in The Christ, to either Jew or Gentile. For we are taught that when faith has arrived we are no longer under this tutor (this "tutor" being the old laws given to the Jewish nation). For The Christ abolished the Law for the Jews consisting of decrees, at the time he was impaled.(6) Therefore, living constantly in The Way of The Christ is the end product of faith.(7) The old Mosaic laws were only a "shadow" of the reality. The Christ Jesus is that reality.
