SACRED POLES, PILLARS AND OBELISKS.

The above structures, in one form or another, are given prominence in many public places within many nations. They are all an offence before God.

Among the demonic false gods worshipped by the ancients were those fashioned as poles cut from trees or pillars from stone. Today, they are given such names as obelisks, cenotaphs, druid stones, maypoles, etc. An example is the so-called 'sacred grove' of druid stones standing alongside Caerphilly (U.K.) 'kingdom hall' of JWs the "disgusting thing" "standing in a holy place". (Matt 24:15. Dan 8:13,14). These stones are still used in pagan ceremonies to give glory to, and to honour, their demons and their dead. They certainly are not used to honour Jehovah the One True God, as proven by His warning: "The Lord will judge by fire, with fire He will test all living men, and many will be slain by the Lord; those who hallow and purify themselves in garden-rites, one after another in a magic ring (who "enter groves for ritual dances". Moffatt), those who eat the flesh of pigs and rats and all vile vermin, shall meet their end, one and all, says the Lord, for I know their deeds and their thoughts." (Isaiah 66:16-18 NEB).

The only allowance Almighty God has given for a pillar to be erected is one of remembrance in Egypt. When the day comes when inhabitants of the five cities of Egypt are "swearing allegiance to the Lord of Hosts", a sacred pillar will be erected on Egypt's frontier as a token and a reminder to the Lord of how He did "strike" and "heal" them. (Isaiah 19:18-22 NEB).

Further, it is written: "You shall not plant any kind of tree as a sacred pole beside the altar of the Lord your God which you shall build. You shall not set up a sacred pillar, for the Lord your God hates them." (Deut 16:21,22 NEB. See: 7:5,6 NEB). Giving glory to carved images is also an offence. (Lev 26:1,2). When anointed sons of God administer His righteousness from the heavens, churches and their spires must be destroyed, for they too are an offence before Him.
