ACTS 2:17 DID NOT FULFIL JOEL 2:28. (NEB).
"THE LAST DAYS" HAVE LASTED 1,955 YEARS? CORRECTING A MISUNDERSTANDING.
In referring to the prophecy through Joel, Peter declared that what happened at Pentecost would happen "in the last days" --but of this generation. He did not mean that what was happening to them at Pentecost fulfilled Joel's prophecy of the "last days". (Joel 2:28). For if that were true, the "last days" would now be 1,988 years, less the number of years from the birth of Christ to the day when they actually spoke in tongues, a period of around 1,955 years to date.
Therefore, the fulfilment of the "last days" before the coming of the Lord was to be much later in time, when our God would gather peoples of all nations to the symbolic "place" for judgement. (See Pages 17/5/86, 4/3/86, 18/9/86, 17/3/86 on "Jehoshaphat"). This is also when God pours out His Spirit upon all mankind, not only upon Galileans, but also upon His servant sons and daughters. They are the ones who will prophesy and see dreams and visions. There at Jerusalem, servants spoke only in tongues. What Peter meant, was that all servants of God on earth would prophesy by means of Holy Spirit, just before and concerning the prophesied coming "terrible day of the Lord". (Joel 2:31 NEB.)
PROPHESYING IN THESE "LAST DAYS". (Isaiah 65:24).
According to the Oxford Dictionary, 'prophesying', is to speak by Divine inspiration or in the name of a deity. To interpret or expound the Scriptures, to utter Divine mysteries; especially so to announce (a future event); to predict, to foretell: Doing these things, just before the coming day of the Lord. As we, His servants, discuss spiritual matters, He listens. And before we call to Him for a particular understanding He answers us, usually in dreams. This is so that we interpret and expound the Scriptures and their mysteries correctly, including those scriptures still to be fulfilled in the near future. God says: "before they call to Me, I will answer, and while they are still speaking I will listen." (Isaiah 65:24 NEB).
