"A CONTEMPTIBLE CREATURE WILL SUCCEED BUT
WILL NOT BE GIVEN RECOGNITION AS KING…"
(DANIEL 11:21 NEB).

(1) THE CONTEMPTIBLE CREATURE who seized "the kingdom"* "by dissimulation and intrigue in time of peace" has proven to be Ayatollah Khomeini*, now of Iran. With fraudulent alliances and with few people behind him (11:23) he has roused "himself in all his strength" to "lead a great army against the king of the south" (11:25); namely against demoncracies through their allies, or as his people describe them, the 'great satan'.

(2) THE ONE WHO RETURNS "TO HIS OWN LAND": This man with "anger in his heart against the Holy Covenant" because his will (and satan's) is against the Holy Covenant of God being fulfilled in His people (a covenant he is not under), has appointed himself Leader of the Liberation (P.L.O.). (11:28). And "on his way back" he did "take due note" of those he believed had forsaken the Holy Covenant. (11:30). Ships from the west did sail against him, and he did "receive a rebuff": Namely, Yasser Arafat.*

(3)"THE ABOMINABLE THING THAT CAUSES DESOLATION" has been explained in great detail in Pages 849, 837, 838, 862 and 840 of the "Little Scroll". (11:32). The sect calling themselves Jehovah's Witnesses still congregate in sports stadiums in like manner as their rebellious kind did in the distant past, as described in minor fulfilment in 1 Maccabees 1:11-15 (NEB); doing so in most countries of the world today.

(4) "THIS KING TOO WILL MEET HIS END": This king was the Shah of Iran, whom the "contemptible creature" Ayatollah Khomeini succeeded but was not given recognition as king. (11:20). This king did "meet his end, yet neither openly nor in battle" (11:20); he died of disease while in the exile forced upon him by the "contemptible creature". Much of Daniel's vision for the "time of the end", both in its literal and spiritual fulfilments, has been realised. We are now waiting for:

        (A) The Christ Michael's deliverance of his fellow-countrymen. (12:1).
        (B) The coming "time of distress". (12:1).
        (C) The administration of unity of The Christ and his anointed brothers (12:3).
