"ESAU REPRESENTS THE END OF THE FIRST AGE, AND JACOB THE BEGINNING OF THE NEXT AGE." (From 2 Esdras 6:7-10 NEB).

THE DOMINANT "ESAU" AGE, AND THE NEXT AGE OF "JACOB".
Esau did not value sacred things, including the promise of God to Abraham respecting the "seed", through which all nations of the earth would bless themselves. (Gen 22:16-18).

Most of mankind today, like Esau, do not value the "seed" of God: The Christ. Consequently, they live unspiritual lives of their own choosing and not a life in Christ, even though "no single thing was created without him." (John 1:2-4 NEB). By contrast, Abraham's second grandson, Jacob, represents another "age", one of spiritual life, active within the survivors who begin the new "age" of righteousness after this last "age" of Godlessness reaped. (2 Esdras 4:26-32. 15:5,6 NEB).

Between this last age and the future "Jacob" age there will not be an interval or transitional period. (2 Esdras 6:9,10 NEB). Those who value sacred things and those who do not are two peoples that have been "going their own ways from birth!" (Gen 25:23 NEB). "Esau"-type peoples (now dominating) will soon experience a reversal, as those of "Jacob" will have in subjection those who were driving them to work. Such ones are to serve people of "Jacob"-type disposition. (See Isaiah 14:1,2 & 60:10-12). For Jehovah is not partial, nor is His "planting" through genetic inheritance, but is through righteousness. (Isaiah 60:21. Acts 10:34-36).

ESAU'S NATION, AND JACOB'S "BIRTH".
This physical age of "Esau" has been one that merely values worldly and material things. The birth of the spiritual "Jacob" age, commencing at the end ("heel") of the "Esau" age, begins the servitude of those of an "Esau"-type disposition. The "instrument of final destruction, justice in full flood" will bring about a removal of the tyrannical "yoke" of the "Assyrian". Then the wrath of God will be spent. (Isaiah 10:22-27 NEB & footnote).

JACOB'S "BIRTH".
"'The time draws near when I shall come to judge those who live on the earth, the time when I shall inquire into the wickedness of wrong-doers, the time when Zion's humiliation will be over, the time when a seal will be set on the age about to pass away.'" (2 Esdras 6:18-20 NEB).

"So you shall know that I the Lord am your Deliverer, your
Ransomer the Mighty One of Jacob." (Isaiah 60:16 NEB).

JACOB: Taking hold of the heel; supplanter.
EDOM: Byname of Esau. (Edom: red, ruddy). (Gen 36:1).
