SPEAKING IN TONGUES.

(Explanations of, and from, the Greek Translation).

"The (one) for speaking to tongue not to men he is speaking but to God,
no one for is hearing, to spirit but he is speaking mysteries". (1 Cor 14:2 Greek T).

No one for is hearing"………...………

"Not to men he is speaking"…….……

"To spirit but he is speaking"……..…..

"Speaking mysteries"…………..……..

As speech is audible, it can only mean that those listening to one speaking in a tongue could not understand. (1 Cor 14:28).

But speaking to God, with thanksgiving and singing praises. (1 Cor 14:15).

Uttering indiscernible sounds. (1 Cor 14:7-11).

Partial knowledge in lieu of future complete accurate knowledge according to its appointed time and spiritual obedience of God's servants.
                                                (1 Cor 13:8-11).

1 Cor 14:4:
"The one speaking to tongue himself is building up."

The hearers receive no spiritual upbuilding from indiscernible sounds until the one who has spoken in a tongue has translated its meanings by prayer and Holy Spirit. (1 Cor 14:13-17. 7-11).

1 Cor 14:5:
"Outside if not he may be translating, in order that the ecclesia upbuilding might receive."
Speaking in tongues by Holy Spirit but without its translation afterwards had no value within the congregation of God! And unless the translation was uttered, speaking in tongues was, in effect, individual and outside the congregation.

1 Cor 14:7-12:
Teaches by comparison that even inanimate or soulless things like a flute, harp or trumpet, require silent intervals between the sounds to distinguish what is being played. So too with speech, it needs to be understood for benefit.

1 Cor 14:27,28:
Clearly conveys the one speaking in a tongue must also be the translator of it. Verses 27 & 28 in the Greek Translation says: "let him be translating; if ever but not he may be translator, let him be keeping silent in ecclesia, to himself but let him be speaking and to the God." But in the New World Translation it says, "and let someone translate", which is obviously incorrect and misleading, as 1 Corinthians 14:2 proves he is speaking to God and not to men. Further, as he himself needed to pray with his gift and fruitful mind for its translation, someone else did not apply. (1 Cor 14:3-15). "If-and to tongue anyone is speaking, according to two or the most three, and up part, and one let him be translating; if ever but not he may be translator, let him be keeping silent in ecclesia, to himself but let him be speaking and to the God."
                                                                                                        (1 Cor 14:27,28 Greek T).

Today, speaking in tongues is no longer a sign to unbelievers, as the understandings of spiritual mysteries or sacred secrets of the past are now known and understood by many; (i.e.) the Will and purpose of God in connection with Creation. There is no longer the need for God to use this means of communication, not even as a sign to unbelievers as the gift of tongues was in the past. Truly obedient servants know the Will of God and speak it out fearlessly, obeying all His commandments, and are employing its fulfilment with accurate knowledge, far greater than speaking in tongues, which was only a babe-like partial knowledge of the whole. Therefore today, anyone speaking as if in a spiritual tongue is exercising only a personal and uncanny sign (divination) to mislead others away from the true God. (1 Cor 14:10,11).

Speaking in different tongues:
The gift of being able to speak inspired utterances of God in many other earthly tongues (as at Pentecost) for the benefit of other nationalities that spoke in various languages.

Interpretation of tongues:
After speaking to the Spirit, one needed to pray in order to be able to translate. (1 Cor 14:13). In the same way, prophets were to be controlled by the prophets, as were interpreters of a brother's utterances. Such an interpreter is known as a discerner of inspired utterances; which was, and still is, a spiritual gift.
