PSALM 68:11-13.

Thy flock settled therein;
Thou didst prepare in Thy
goodness for the poor, O God.

The Lord giveth the word;
The women that proclaim the
tidings are a great host.

Kings of armies, they flee;
And she that tarrieth at home
divideth the spoil.

Verse 11. "Flock": The uncommon Hebrew word 'chayyah' occurs again in 2 Samuel 23:13, where it is translated as 'troop'. In Arabic, it means a clan consisting of persons sharing the same blood.

Verse 12. "The Lord giveth the word": For the subjection of inhabitants of Canaan, and victory ensued. "The women that proclaim": An army's triumph was celebrated by the women in song. (Cf. verse 26; Exodus 15:20; 1 Samuel 18:6).

Verse 13. "Kings of armies": The word for 'armies' is the same as in the phrase, 'Lord of hosts'. Their military prowess is of no avail against His might.

Writer's comments: The above copy of verses 11 to 13 of Ginsburg's Hebrew Bible corresponds with verses 10 to 12 of the New World Translation. The context of "good news" in verse 11 of the New World Translation will be correctly understood when it is compared with Ginsburg's translation (sometimes quoted by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society). It certainly does not give an allowance for women to preach, teach, or tell the "good news" of The Christ within congregations or from house to house, as is currently advocated by the sect calling themselves Jehovah's Witnesses. Furthermore, the "good news" of The Christ had not yet begun at the time Psalm 68 was written.

(Note: Cf. verse 26 in Psalm Ch.68 reads as verse 25 in the New World Translation).
