810. THE "AHAB" OF TODAY, "Have you murdered and also taken possession?…In the place where the dogs licked up the blood of Naboth, the dogs will lick up your blood, even yours." (1 Kings 21:19). "Look! I am sending to you people Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and fear-inspiring day of Jehovah." (Mal 4:5). Jesus used the works of the woman Jezebel of the past to reveal both her and her works of a future time (in both the spiritual and physical sense) during the "Lord's day". (Rev 1:10). Ahab and the other characters in 1 Kings Ch.21 must be understood in a figurative way in order to understand their spiritual meaning; (i.e.) whom they represent by their living works before our Lord Jesus (during his invisible presence) in this "time of the end". First, let us read Jesus' warnings to the angels of his congregations today: "Nevertheless, I do hold this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and misleads my slaves to commit fornication and to eat things sacrificed to idols." (Rev 2:20). Jesus is here prophesying of the "tolerating" of her against his warnings, as they would not be able to prevent her appearance (of her being active within his congregations). This fact is being fulfilled today as he said it would be, and it is held against them. What else did our Lord say in his warning? This: "And I gave her time to repent, but she is not willing to repent of her fornication." (Rev 2:21). Ahab's wife was not given time to repent. Judgement of her was carried out, indicating that Jesus' words were a warning to us, and given hundreds of years after the literal death of Jezebel. So why refer to her as a type of woman to watch for today, but not tolerate? The reasons are not hidden in scripture, but are plainly written: (1) She claims to be a prophetess (by exercising authority as such).(2) She teaches the "deep things of satan" (dejecting the hearts of righteous ones) and misleads some of Jesus' slaves (anointed ones) to commit spiritual fornication and to eat things sacrificed to idols; advocating qualities of admiration in the congregations to scatter the "lean" ones of Jesus' brothers. "Jezebel" women today are accomplishing these works through the unscriptural authority of their unsealed husbands, appointed as 'elders' without an anointing by Holy Spirit from God. (Rev 3:9).Her husband Ahab did not have a God-given hereditary possession of this sort, for it represents today the spiritual "vine" in the land of God's Kingdom through the "seed" Jesus, and the cultivating and gathering of the Kingdom heirs. Jesus is the true "vine", and his brothers are its branches. As Naboth's ground was near to Ahab's house, he could if he had wanted to have sent help to Naboth for the ploughing of the righteous "ground", while Naboth (and therefore "Naboths" of today) sowed the spiritual "seed" (Holy Spirit); and all receiving blessings from it. Instead, he valued the land as being of less value than vegetables (of fleshly benefit only). So really, it was authority over the "land" that "Ahab" so desperately wanted. Jezebel felt that the loyalty of righteous Naboth reduced her husband's authority, so she fabricated a scheme against Naboth using her husband's authority, making and using good-for-nothing men to fabricate an accusation against Naboth, even making it look official before others. After Naboth's death, and with her husband's backing among the people, she could continue misleading them. However, Ahab knew his position before God by saying to Elijah, God's messenger: "Have you found me, O enemy of mine?" And Elijah replied, "I have found you". "For the reason that you have sold yourself to do what is bad in the eyes of Jehovah". (1 Kings 21:20). In verse 25 it says: "whom Jezebel his wife egged on". There are "Jezebel" women today that have imitated her and adopted the same course of behaviour toward the "least" of Jesus' brothers among the people. The guilt of their husbands is also known; the so-called priests and good-for-nothing "fellows" used by "her". Their destiny is written in our Father's Word. Those of you who have been committing "adultery" with her, repent, correct it immediately, before the calamity begins. (Rev 2:21-23). Do not show the same cowardice as those who present obedience in picture form, as in the recent JW Watchtower magazine article of July 24th 1977 pg.368 as to headcoverings; trying it on for size, but being afraid to teach it. (Rev 21:8). (Cont. on Page 811). 24/6/77. |
