ARE WE RECOMMENDING MEN
WHO RECOMMEND THEMSELVES?

(3) Paul, in his second letter to the Corinthians chapter 10 verse 12 said:
"For we do not dare to class ourselves among some or compare ourselves with some who recommend themselves. Certainly they in measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves with themselves have no understanding." These men that Paul was referring to are men-pleasers, seeking to please men (and women) for selfish reasons, and are only recommending themselves. They do so in various ways, but usually for the one main reason, self-glorification; whether it is evident in that one's need for his family and others to admire him, or through jealousy and envy, which creates in him an inner need to have some special recognition of authority over others.

(4) Needing admiration from others and by making a false show of knowledge to gain prominence, some have deviated from the faith (1 Tim 6:21); and continue in this course by showing coldness to those who refuse to support them in their pressing ahead presumptuously. Did Paul recommend himself or others? Yes, and to find out how compare 2 Corinthians 6:4-10. Paul then, recommended himself and others as ministers of God through sufferings, things not pleasing to them, in order to be obedient to our Heavenly Father, and in doing so sought the advantage of others in order that they might get saved. (1Cor 10:33).

(5) Thus today, congregations have 'started' again to adopt ways of recommending themselves and others by letters to and from congregations. Even appointing men whom they have never met and unable to share in having a faith in common (as members of the body of Christ). All this being done by proxy! Whereas, the apostles sent their anointed brothers, or travelled personally, to find and appoint men whom they found to be adequately spiritually qualified in word and deed in order to minister to others the Word of God. (Titus 1:4-9. Acts 20:28. Titus 1:4).

(3) & (4a) How did Paul recommend himself and others as God's ministers?

(4b) In what way do men-pleasers recommend themselves?

(5)   What is scripturally wrong today in the appointing of men to shepherd
        the flock of God?
